(posting this a little early so Hubby can see it when Father’s Day starts on his side of the world)
Like father, like daughter!
I still remember Hubby’s face when I found out I was pregnant. He was beyond excited! In the delivery room, he was mesmerized with bringing his baby into the world. Once she was born, he didn’t want to leave her side. In fact, he almost didn’t! He went with her to the nursery for her to get cleaned up, while I rested, and when it came time to move me to another room, I had to actually have him paged in the nursery to come back to me. He was in love!
He still is.
I am so blessed to be married to not only an incredible husband, but an amazing father. He truly loves being a Daddy, and she is a true Daddy’s girl!
I wish we could be together on this special day, but distance doesn’t change the love my daughter and her daddy have for each other.
You are amazing! You are everything I could have hoped for in the father of my child. You love her without measure, and she knows that. She knows that she is beautiful because “Daddy says so”. She admires you, she trusts you, she loves you more than you can imagine. She is the amazing girl that she is because of you (and me too!). Thank you for laughing with her, teaching her, elephant rides, holding hands, camping trips, and all those things that we look forward to doing when you get home!
Before Hubby left, he and Lovebug worked on a project together. They put together a couple shelves for her room. They worked hard! They sawed, sanded, and glued these together and spent a few days working together on it.
Lovebug is turning her room into a “museum” because she LOVES to collect things. She collects nature items mostly, but also bottlecaps and marbles. Now she has a couple beautiful ways to display some of her prized possessions on the wall! I’ll have to take another picture of them because they are full of treasures now.
Well done! Great teamwork!
She’s also decided that when she grows up she wants to own a museum. It’s amazing the amount of detail she has in her head about this. The other night, she and I laid in her bed talking about it for over an hour as she described the rooms she wanted to have, when she would be open, how she wanted it to be cheap so people could come often, and how she wanted to use her nature and science museum to teach people about God! There were so many ideas, and with such detail that I wouldn’t doubt for a moment that God placed this dream in her heart.
She wants a Sensory Room with pogo sticks, bean bags, books to read, furs, skins & textures to feel, and water to touch. She wants a bug room, and a rare animal and plant room. She even said she wanted to have a “live animal” room where one family at a time could go in and interact with an animal in a quiet setting so that everyone and the animal would feel comfortable. She also wants to travel and take pictures of rare plants and animals to hang up in her museum – and then sell copies of the prints to make money for her museum.
It would not surprise me one bit if she did this!! She has always loved nature since she was a baby, and science is her favorite subject in school. She knows more about animals than most people I know, and is always learning. I’m encouraging her to write these dreams and goals in her journal “so she’ll remember them”, but honestly, it’s also so I’ll remember :) I want to capture these thoughts while I can.
About a month before Hubby left for his deployment, Lovebug asked for another Daddy Daughter dance at home “in our fancy clothes”. No way was he going to turn that down! So, once again, Hubby got all dressed up in his tux to twirl his daughter around the living room to a few songs.
It was PRECIOUS! They were both beaming with love for each other and I know those moments will last a lifetime in their minds. I love that Hubby puts such a priority on taking Lovebug out for dates. He’s showing her through his example how a man should treat a lady, and he’s also showing her how special and deserving of his love she is. That relationship between a daughter and her Daddy is so important, and I’m thankful that my little girl has such a great Daddy!
No dance is complete without cookies and punch, so I made them homemade cookies and root beer floats!
After the dance, they went out for their usual date – SUSHI! It’s Lovebug’s favorite!
I just had to share this with you all. When Hubby is home, he and Lovebug have a nightly routine that they go through to say goodnight. She does it with me too, but it’s especially cute to watch her with him as they give each other
Noggin, Nose, Cheek, Kiss, & Big Hug followed by lots of tucks!
Since he’s been away from home for a few months, we’ve been blessed that he’s able to call almost every night to say goodnight to her. Since she can’t do the routine in person, she does it over the phone.
If he calls before she’s made it into bed, she just drops down wherever she is and goes through the entire thing as if she were in bed.
I can’t believe so many people guessed that this was a THRONE! You were SO CLOSE!
It’s sort of a throne…it’s a TOILET!
Lovebug created this as a toilet (with heat lamps no less!) for her Lego person.
Then, Hubby came home for Thanksgiving, took one look at it (without a person on it) and said, “Is that a flying toilet?”.
I was in AWE. Seriously. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
It reminds me of a time years and years ago when I was playing Pictionary (remember that game?) with our family. My mom and her best friend were on the same team. My mom drew a circle with a line going down from it. It looked like this:
My mom’s friend took one look and said “Yo-Yo!”.
She guessed right. That’s exactly what my mom had meant to draw.
Remember this stuff from when you were a kid? Or maybe just from last week? I remember taking this with me every time I went to camp – no refrigeration needed! We let Lovebug get one when we were shopping at the commissary while visiting Hubby this past weekend. She had a BLAST with it! At first, we were letting her have a little at a time, but then one night I just handed her the can and told her to have fun. She opened her eyes super wide and said, “I can have ALL of it??”. I told her she could have as much as she wanted.
Sorry for the awful pictures (camera phone and bad lighting in the hotel room), but I hope you can see the excitement!
Hubby has been gone since the end of August for training, and this really helps her feel connected to him! He’s not deployed, and we are blessed to get to talk to him almost every night, but this is still the longest that she’s ever been separated from her Daddy. I can only imagine how much these dolls must help a child during a deployment!!
Since Hubby’s mini-me arrived, he has joined us for Trick or Treating, outings at the Arboretum, Sunday mornings at church, just running errands, and cuddling when she goes to sleep! She loves having Daddy by her side!
A couple days before Hubby left, Lovebug was talking to him about the Daddy Daughter Dance they went to back in February. Out of the blue Lovebug says to Daddy….”I wish we could do another Daddy Daughter Dance in our fancy clothes just in our living room at home!”. Hey! We can do that! Why not? Hubby said, “How about tomorrow morning?”, and they had a date!
She was so excited! Hubby was excited too about this chance to have one more dance with her before leaving. I was so glad that she said something so we were able to make her dream come true.
The next morning before we headed out for a family day, my sweet Hubby and my precious little girl got all dressed up! I just love seeing my husband in a tux – so handsome!! Just like our wedding day! Lovebug looked beautiful in her “fancy dance dress” too! She didn’t have to wear shoes either, so that was a bonus! I even served them snacks 🙂 I put together a playlist for them that included some slow, sappy ones as well as a couple fast dance songs. Here is the list:
Cinderella by Steven Curtis Chapman (I got in a little trouble for making him cry right away!)
The Crazy Dance by Go Fish
In My Daughter’s Eyes by Martina McBride
Daddy’s Little Girl by Michael Bolton
Cha Cha Slide by Mr. C
Think of Me by Veggie Tales
It was the most precious thing I have ever seen in my life…watching my husband and daughter spend those few moments together creating a lifetime of memories. I know it was a moment we will never forget. They both said this one was even more fun than the big dance they went to…much more relaxed and less crowded. Let me share a little bit with you! (I know….lots of images, but they are worth it!)
